    Description

September 15, 1944 typed letter signed (TLS) from Dr. A. J. Collins, President of the South Carolina State Colored Fair out of Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Collins writes the Director of the Fair and mentions that
"Due to illness of President, and the various rationing of gas and tires (due to the war effort), I have failed to call a meeting of the board."
He goes on to let the Director know that he will call a later meeting during the Fair and asks that a credible exhibit and a good crowd comes. I found a photo of Dr. Arthur J. Collins online from 1959 when he was president of the South Carolina Palmetto State Fair Association, which presents the Colored State Fair annually. Dr. Collins was also a dentist and farm owner. The photo is for reference only and not part of the sale.
