South American Hand Wheel Thrown Pottery Wovan Grass Rim Edge Vintage 6” Native. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. This is a great bowl. It measures approximately 6” tall and 26” around at the fattest. The inside is smooth. There are some scratches on the surface consistent with a vintage piece.
This is a wonderful one of a kind vintage wheel thrown ceramic bowl, hand crafted with fine smooth clay and fired to create a range of medium and dark browns all the way to black. The finished edge is made of grass or other plant fiber, and is beautifully woven into the drilled holes that rim the bowl. It takes skill, care, and finesse to drill this many holes so close to the rim without cracking! It is unmarked, but I believe it to be of South American, perhaps Peruvian, origin. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs and shows just minor scratching consistent with vintage wear.
You rarely come across these fine vintage decorative wheel thrown ceramic woven grass rimmed bowls. This is a one-of-a-kind art bowl, a great addition to any setting!
