REFINISHED & ELECTRONICALLY RESTORED
THIS IS AN ORIGINAL SENTINEL RADIO, MODEL 198A410, CIRCA 1940. It is a 6 tube set, receiving standard AM and shortwave from 7 to 18 megahertz (a band still in international use). It has been electronically restored and is currently playing. It has a built in antenna for AM reception, though it will probably need an outside antenna (and possibly a good earth ground) for SW reception. It is a rather large radio, measuring approximately 19.5 X 11 X 10.25 inches. It has push buttons for AM use. The power cord and grill cloth are replacements, as is the small plywood reinforcing strip on the rear inside of the case. The knobs are all old and of matching designs, though two are larger and two smaller. I suspect two knobs have been replaced, though a few sets in this era had knobs of dissimilar sizes.
There is slight to moderate veneer damage on the top right of the set as the photos show. This is not uncommon in "waterfall" cabinets and furniture of this era, as the veneer is under considerable stress, especially if stored in a humid environment. A few years ago, the cabinet was refinished; they did a good job on it, I would say. The dial cover is original; it does have a couple of small splits, is yellowed, and is somewhat deformed on one side--see photos. All this sounds pretty bad, but actually, the set looks very nice!
Although currently playing, I sell all mechanical and electronic devices in AS-IS condition, as tubes and other delicate components can easily be damaged or get out of adjustment in transit. Even there, however, I still have a thirty (30) day return policy during which you may return the item for any reason or for no reason as long as it is in the same condition in which I sent it. Insurance is included in shipping. ALSO please note that any damage caused in shipping must be pursued through an insurance claim, as for a refund, the item must be in the same condition in which I shipped it. After that, if notice of damage is given within the 30 day period, I will still make a refund if desired.
I searched eBay for this make and model radio, and only found two in the last three or four years. One was the battery version (which did have a voltage converter) but was not working; it sold for I believe . The other was the exact same model, back in 2018, which sold for around 0.
