After The Moody Blues completed filming and recording their historic Live Concert with Symphonic Orchestra at Red Rocks Amphitheater on September 9, 1992, the band's record company gave each of the 4 Moodies one of these custom jackets commemorating this great event.  This concert was the first time The Moody Blues created their legendary orchestral sound live and on stage since they recorded
Days of Future Passed
in studio. It was also the springboard for several tours the Moodies performed Live with Symphony Orchestra in the years that followed.
It was before one of the first concerts in The Moody Blues 1993 Spring Tour that I ran into Graeme Edge back stage where he was wearing this jacket.  As I had never seen it before, I gushed at how cool it was.  About 30 minutes later I sat next to Graeme for dinner in the catering room. After a bit of chatting, I complimented him again on the awesome jacket.  AT THAT MOMENT GRAEME STOOD UP, TOOK THE JACKET OFF AND GAVE IT TO ME!  Then he said to me: "
WHENEVER ANYONE COMPLIMENTS ME ON SOMETHING TWICE, I GIVE IT TO THEM".
Needless to say I was blown away by his kindness and generosity, but for those who knew Graeme, not one would be surprised.  Graeme Edge was a fun-loving and brilliant drummer with a huge heart of gold... he was known as the "Engine of The Moody Blues".  Graeme's wisdom and intelligence are on display every time you listen to one of his incredibly deep spoken lyrics that opens many of the great albums by The Moody Blues. We will fondly remember Graeme every time we hear: "
When the White Eagle of the North is flying overhead...
" and more.
It was always a treat to spend time with Graeme.  One day back in the 90's he called me out of nowhere, and the first words I heard on the phone were
not "Hello"
but rather "
Where Are We Going to Play
?".  I knew it was Graeme but didn't know he was in L.A.  Of course he was referring to golf, and it turned out that he had just arrived on a sailing ship but was leaving the next day.  That was a day I'll never forget... the stories he told me in the 5+ hours of irreverent fun at Malibu golf club!
This jacket is one of four made for the members of The Moody Blues.  It has a black wool body, quality leather sleeves and collar, warm quilted insulation inside, and an embroidered "The Moody Blues Live from Red Rocks" logo crest. It is a very roomy fit although there is not a size label inside.  I have never worn the jacket outside; it has been stored in a coat closet.
